Ultraviolett (UV) Disifiction
Description
The application of UV to disinfection has been an accepted practice since the mid-20th century. It has been used primarily in medical sanitation and sterile work facilities. Increasingly it has been employed to sterilize drinking and wastewater.
UV light is e ective against contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, mould spores, algae and other micro-organisms as it prevents growth and reproduction. If left untreated, these organisms remain in the water and produce a bio- lm coating throughout the water system which harbours more bacteria and makes the water less safe to use or drink.
